Faith Chepkorir’s Journey: From Kericho to Austria with a Heart Full of Care
Faith Chepkorir’s journey to becoming a nurse wasn’t one she initially planned. Hailing from the green highlands of Kericho, Kenya, Faith dreamt of engineering, physics, and equations. Yet fate, and her university placement had other plans. This is her inspiring story of how she embraced nursing, found her calling, and prepared to take on a new chapter in Austria.

A Shift in Dreams
When Faith joined university, she didn’t envision herself in the healthcare field. Her heart was set on engineering and sciences. But when nursing became her designated path, she decided to give it a chance. Through clinical rotations and hands-on experience, she discovered a passion she never expected. Helping patients in their most vulnerable moments brought her deep fulfillment. Changing a patient’s position, seeing their relief, and witnessing the gratitude in their eyes made her realize, this is exactly where she belonged.

The Turning Point: Maternity Rotation
It was during her maternity rotation that Faith had a moment of clarity. Assisting in childbirth, being present through the pain and the joy, filled her with a sense of purpose. Despite the exhaustion, the emotional rewards were immense. That moment sealed her fate. Nursing was not just a career, it was a calling.

Taking Flight: Excitement Meets Uncertainty
As her departure for Austria draws near, Faith is filled with mixed emotions. Leaving Nairobi, the city she knows so well, for a foreign land with a different culture and language is both daunting and exciting. But for her, this move is an opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive. Europe represents more than just a destination; it's a space to build the life she’s envisioned.

Staying the Course
Faith’s journey wasn’t without its hurdles. The German language classes were challenging. There were moments she doubted whether she could continue. But with the unwavering support of her parents, especially her mother, she stayed the course. Her family encouraged her to keep going, to pursue the dream to its full potential, and to not let the moment pass her by.

Faith’s Advice to Future Nurses
To anyone walking the same path, Faith’s advice is simple: be patient. Success takes time, and passing the German language exams requires consistent effort. Join study groups, find a tutor, and practice daily. Most importantly, believe in the journey and keep moving forward.

The Role of TYE
Throughout her transition, Faith credits TYE for playing a key role. From funding to emotional support, TYE was a constant companion, offering guidance, answering questions, and ensuring no one felt alone. Their open communication made a world of difference, especially during times of doubt.

Looking Ahead: Dreams and Gratitude
Faith’s goals go beyond working in Austria. She hopes to become a nurse practitioner and explore opportunities across Europe. Personally, she’s excited to travel, experience new cultures, and taste different cuisines, Italy and Greece are high on her list.
She concludes with gratitude, to God, her parents, TYE, Mount Kenya University, and herself. Because this journey, as long and difficult as it was, has led her to a future filled with promise.
