Ruth's Uncertainty to Discovering Purpose in Austria

For Ruth Chakina, nursing wasn’t love at first sight. She dreamed of engineering or even pharmacy, but life had other plans. She found herself in nursing school, uncertain and unmotivated. Yet, as the years passed, something shifted, she began to see the art in caregiving, the empathy in the profession, and slowly, nursing became her calling.

Ruth first heard about TYE from a friend during an internship. Curiosity led her to reach out, and soon after, Rose guided her through the application and interview process. That one step opened doors she never imagined would lead her abroad

Now, with her flights booked, Ruth is cherishing her final days in Kenya, spending time with family and friends while preparing for a life in Austria. She looks forward to better healthcare systems, new experiences, and a chance to grow personally and professionally.

Her advice to those on the same path is simple but profound: “Be patient. Good things take time.”

For Ruth, the decision to migrate was about opportunity and recognition. In Kenya, competition among nurses is high, and many feel undervalued. Abroad, she believes nurses are respected, systems are stronger, and her training will be fully put into practice.

The toughest challenge for Ruth was learning German, compressing an entire language into a short period, without a chance to use it daily. The waiting periods also tested her patience, as each stage brought new delays. Professionally, she had to pause her career to focus fully on the language, which was not easy

Through it all, Ruth’s mother stood by her side, encouraging her to push on, even to retake exams when needed. Her family’s support gave her the courage to keep moving forward.

Looking back, Ruth is amazed at how much her life changed in just two years. She never imagined herself moving abroad, yet here she is, preparing for a new beginning with TYE’s guidance and support every step of the way.

Ruth dreams of earning her degree recognition, completing her B2 exams, and enrolling in a master’s program. On a personal level, she hopes to reunite with her daughter in Austria and build a future filled with stability and growth.
